Chemical information on a compound consists of its chemical structure, chemical safety, environmental and health aspects of its handling, its use and fate in the environment, its reactivity and features of its molecular structure, and its general use. Table 3.1 shows some sources of chemical information and chemical property databases. In this chapter, some of the more useful sources of chemical information will be described in accordance with the goals of this text. Chemical information provides the reactivity, exposure, and potential health effects of a chemical compound and its thermophysical properties that are key for designing environmentally compatible chemical processes that are known in these days as green chemical processes. To introduce sources of chemical information to demonstrate some of the ways to use a chemical property database to provide an overview of chemical literature databases to show how bibliometrics are calculated from chemical literature databasesĬhemical information is very basic for using chemicals safely and for formulating ideas that might lead to new chemical processes.
